PARCIC: Requirement for Livestock specialist in the Gaza Strip

 ● About PARCIC

PARCIC has started its activities in 1973. The mission of PARCIC is to extend direct support to people afflicted by violence or natural disasters and to help them achieve self-reliance. We promote direct exchanges and fair-trade based on trust among people as a mean toward self-reliant, peaceful and human development.

PARCIC has started its activities in Palestine since 2014, as emergency response to the 2014 war in the Gaza strip.

PARCIC aims at providing direct assistance across borders. We hope to develop inter-people's relationships as fellow human beings. Although we understand the role of sovereign countries and international organization as a union of sovereign countries, we focus on building direct, equal, and inter-human relationship with people in developing countries.

Livestock specialist in Gaza 

● Duration of the contract

Jan - Dec 2018 /1 Year

First three-month will be a trial period*

●Background of the position

The purpose of the position is day to day implementation of the “Livelihood Assistance through Diary for Women’s Groups in the Southern Part of Gaza” funded by the Government of Japan. The project aims to reduce a scale of poverty, to improve the lives of women in southern parts of Gaza, to stabilize food supplies, and to establish a model of sustainable dairy farming under difficult conditions of Gaza by following steps: (1) Form women’s groups to raise goats and sheep collectively, (2) Promote hydroponic culture with livestock feeding, and, (3) Introduce dairy production such as cheese and enhance their marketing strategy.


● Task & Responsibility

The Livestock specialist will be responsible for

- Design and conduct baseline research / analysis to identify needs of targeted areas 

- Provide a bill of quantities, specifications, designs of livestock huts, annual schedules of livestock production

- Conduct a market research and negotiation with suppliers

- Facilitate with the Ministry of Agriculture and related authorities for livestock registration and disease prevention

- Support for procurement and quality control of livestock, fodder, and other inputs, and supervise a material delivery

- Supervise an establishment of livestock huts for 20 female groups of beneficiaries

- Provide training in livestock keeping, milk collection and quality control, marketing and cost / profit calculation of fresh milk / livestock / handmade milk production

- Follow-up and evaluate impacts of seminars and workshops with beneficies 

- Provide extension services to 20 female groups of beneficiaries to supervise livestock-keeping and milk collection, 1-2 visits per group / week

- Develop database focusing on the findings of the extension visits

- Submit a detailed report concerning the extension visits

- Coordinate and carry out monitoring and evaluation

- Other tasks within the livestock specialist qualifications as required by PARCIC's work 

● Qualification & Experience

- At least 3 years of experience working in the livestock sector preferably with NGOs / INGOs / Humanitarian Agencies, Preferably 5 years of experience

- Excellent knowledge and experience in livestock production (small ruminants), milk processing production, fodder production

- (University degree in livestock production or related field (Master's Degree preferred

- Extensive experience in working with public and private sector partners

- A strong background in the NGO / humanitarian aid sector and particularly agricultural and water.

- An in-depth knowledge of the Palestinian agriculture and agricultural market

- Fluent in both English and Arabic including report writing in English

- Having a clear vision about how to enhance women's roles in the community.

- Understanding the relations between emergency and development interventions

-Complemented the 9-month training program provided by the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee (PARC) or similar training program for newly graduated agronomists
